Early Production Tigers
Early Tiger I's are generally identifiable by the tall commander's cupola, rubber-rimmed roadwheels, dual headlights and Feifel air cleaners among other things.

Picture of an early Tiger I leaving the factory. The Feifel air cleaners can
be seen at the rear. This early model lacks track guards and track links
on the turret although the mounts are present. It is fitted with narrow
transport tracks. Clearly evident are the rubber-rimmed roadwheels
of the early models. Also notice the protective cover over the muzzlebrake.

Very early Tiger with a Panzer III baggage bin and no track guards on
the side, placing this model between August and November 1942.

Nice color shot of an early Tiger I.

This picture shows the turret being installed at the Henschel
factory. Note the dual headlights on the hull. This vehicle
also is wearing the narrow transport tracks.

Nice overhead shot again showing the dual headlights. The shovel mount
indicates an October '42 or later model. Also note the rear mounted exhaust
fan (behind the loaders hatch) found on early model turrets.

Good shot of an early Tiger showing the commanders cupola with the vertically opening hatch.

Another good shot of an early machine. It appears the crew of this particular
vehicle has removed the machine gun from its ball mount.

Another overhead shot showing the Feifel air cleaners and early turret. This one has the
standard Tiger baggage bin introduced in January 1943.
